This is a short post about vulnerability scanners. Sara is no longer being updated, per the site.
So now what? Well there is an alternative called Nessus. You can download it and use it at no cost for home use. And this option allows you to get the latest plugins. But what do you do if you need to use it for the enterprise? Well, for a yearly cost of around $1200, you can use it and get updates. That is pretty cheap for an enterprise solution.
I do want to note that this is not the only option to choose from. If you don't have the $1200 clams to shell out, you can always try OpenVAS. It's a fork of Nessus 2.x.x. It runs very similar to the older Nessus version and gives you access to a free plugin feed. I have been using this for about a week and it runs well.
Happy scanning!
Sadly, all good things have to come to an end and so it goes for SARA. SARA 7.9.1 is our last release.
